Iron Man 2 not leading into Avengers?

Many had assumed that Marvel had a strict chain of movies leading into the 'Avengers', with 'Iron Man 2' to 'Thor' to 'Captain America' to the 'Avengers' itself. But, with the date changes and 'Avengers' being pushed all the way into 2012, it leaves room for more films which it looks like Iron Man 1&2 director, Jon Favreau will try to take advantage of.

"We're working towards 'Avengers,' but by the same token we want to resolve this film and make ['Iron Man 2'] play on its own," Favreau told MTV News. "It's not a serial. It's a self-contained film."

"It's not building towards a cliffhanger that's the next movie," he explained. "It's about wrapping up our story and making it a complete tale."

Looks like he'll be spending more time fleshing out the Iron Man trilogy before fully tying into the Avengers film for 2012. An interesting thing to note is that both Black Widow and Hawkeye made their appearances as Iron Man characters, could the third movie give us Hawkeye's appearance and eventual inclusion in the Avengers?
