The End of "Ultimatum" and the Begining of "Ultimate Comics"

The final issue of the Ultimate Marvel event "Ultimatum," has hit the shelves this past Wednesday. Now, I can spend this entire post talking about how much I can't stand current Loeb's work or how this comic was pretty much a cheap/shock death event but there's always another time and place for that.

Now, it's a time to look back and also look into the future for what the "Ultimateverse" holds for us. 10 years ago the Ultimate line was launched by Marvel with "Ultimate Spider-Man" and once it hit the ground running the universe began to grow and grow and soon it learned to stand on it's own with twists on the origins of many different Marvel characters from "Iron Man" to Galactus (Or should I say Gah Lak Tus?).

And though the universe had it's up and downs, hits and misses one thing cannot be denied is that it did it's job. It became an easier jumping on point for anyone wanting to get into Marvel Comics, but once you have 10 years of back story under your universe's belt, you slowly begin to lose that perk. Which is why you bring in a tidal wave (literally speaking in this case) to clear out some of the clutter.

But now, what do we see in our future for the newly titled "Ultimate Comics" Line? "Ultimate Comics Spider-Man" and "Ultimate Avengers" are two of the few titles that will be hitting the shelves in a few weeks but the future is once again become mystery like it was only 10 years ago. But will the "Ultimate Comics" Line be able to survive another decade or will it soon fall to the wayside with the likes of 2099 and MC2 only to be brought up in One-Shots and Mini-Series? With the idea of "Foilogram Covers" for the 1st issues of these series reboots, one can only be fearful of history repeating itself, but we can only wait and see.

Until Next Time,
